Die Walküre Cast

Jason Howard (Wotan)
made his debut as Wotan singing the role at Opera du Rhin in Strasbourg, in the acclaimed David McVicar production.  This will be the first time he has sung the role in the UK. Former Welsh firefighter, Jason Howard now lives in Toronto. He recently sang Marcello in WNO’s La Boheme and was formerly a student of Sir Donald McIntyre.  Future plans include Scarpia/Tosca and Jack Rance/La Fanciulla del West both for Oper Stadtische Buhnen in Frankfurt.

Alwyn Mellor (Brünnhilde)
makes her debut as Brünnhilde at Longborough.  She studied at RNCM and has sung for ENO, Opera North, WNO,  Chelsea Opera Group, Glyndebourne Touring Opera and at the Edinburgh Festival (Gerhilde Die Walküre).  Overseas engagements include Santa Fe, Canadian Opera Company, Treviso, and Cantabria Alwyn has recently sung Chrysothemis (Electra) for WNO and returns in February 2010 to sing Tosca. She will sing Isolde for Grange Park in 2011.    Other engagements include Minnie La Fanciulla del West and Sieglinde Die Walküre for Opera North, and Ortlinde Die Walküre for the Royal Opera.

 

Lee Bisset

Lee Bissett (Sieglinde)
Scottish soprano Lee Bisset studied at the RNCM
and National Opera Studio and in Italy.  In 2005 she represented Scotland at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World. From 2005-2007 she was a member of the Young Singers' Programme at English National Opera.  Recent engagements include Eva in a concert performance of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg for the UK Wagner Society, and a recital in St John's, Smiths Square, London.  Lee last appeared at Longborough as Tatiana in Eugene Onegin.

 

Alison Kettlewell (Fricka)

Graduated in drama before studying singing at RNCM. She has sung for Opera Holland Park, Raymond Gubbay, London Handel Festival, Wexford, Almeida, Munich, Opera du Rhin Strasbourg, Berlin, Linbury Studio ROH, Chelsea Opera Group.  Many performances in Italy include Como, Pisa, Lucca, Cremona, Mantova Brescia, Montepulciano and Batignano. Roles include Charlotte Werther, Suzuki Madama Butterfly, Dorabella Cosi, Donna Elvira Don Giovanni and Delilah. Her many Concert engagements include The Royal Albert Hall, and she has appeared on BBC Radio 3s In Tune.

 

Andrew Rees (Siegmund)
has sung with Mid-Wales Opera, Otago Festival, New Zealand, NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg, Opera Holland Park, Almeida Opera, ENO, Carl Rosa Opera, Chelsea Opera Group, St. Gallen and Weimar.  Andrew created the role of Ryan in Jonathan Dove’s opera for Channel 4 TV When She Died: Death of a Princess. He has performed at all the major concert halls across London and the UK, performed live on In Tune, Radio 3 and broadcast on S4C and BBC television. Last Spring he embarked on a concert tour of NZ and Australia with a final concert at the Sydney Opera House.

 

Mark Richardson (Hunding)
After training as a surveyor Mark studied music and theatre at RNCM as well as working as an electrician in many Manchester theatres. He then became a principal member of ENO where he sang many and varied roles. Since leaving ENO he has sung at Covent Garden , Geneva, Paris (Opera Garnier) Milan (La Scala) . Mark had the pleasure of being involved with Longborough Festival's first Ring cycle and is delighted to return for the new production.
