The Opera Project was founded in 1993 by Richard Studer, Artistic Director and Designer, and Jonathan Lyness, Musical Director, and first came to Longborough in 2002 with their production of Verdi's Traviata. In 2003, their production of Albert Herring, with Ed Lyon in the title role, was the first performance of a Britten opera at Longborough. In 2004 they brought an ingenious Figaro's Wedding, which did full justice to the Jeremy Sams translation. For the first time in 2005, LFO commissioned a fresh staging of La Boheme to be designed specifically for the theatre at Longborough. The set featured a steam engine in Act III of the opera!
In 2006 the team was asked to present a new production of Rigoletto, and in 2007 Eugene Onegin
